Pemberton Borough owes its beginnings to what many neighboring towns in New Jersey do; water. Located on the northernmost branch of the Rancocas, Pemberton was founded around 1740 when David Budd built a mill on Budd's run and later joined two of his friends in forming the New Mills Company.
The New Mills Company quickly bought up land that would later define the boundaries of Pemberton, and since the town was left relatively unscathed by the onset of the Revolutionary War, the town began to pick up steam, becoming a community hub by 1785 and attracting business from all over the area. The town continued to grow and thrive, eventually becoming a Borough on March 10, 1846.
The town has mostly remained the same over the years, and still boasts many of the early dwellings as historical landmarks that show just how longstanding the community actually is. Not only that, but with a great location and easy access to mass transit, it is a great place to remove oneself from the day to day grind of the city and unwind in a more quiet and rural atmosphere.
For those interested, Pemberton is in the Third Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 8th Legislative District and boasts its own ISD as well as easy travel to nearby New York City.
