Delanco, New Jersey is located on the Delaware River became a township in 1859 by an act of the New Jersey State Legislature. It shares much of the colorful history of bordering Beverly township and was a hub of activity during the Revolutaionary War where the many ferrys and bridges were used to quickly move troops from battle to battle.
Delanco is an older township and can trace its roots back to 1688 when Burlington county was organized into several different townships under more localized governments and this has been passed down through the years, even influencing the local governements of the area to this day.
The main historical staple, and probably biggest draw to Delanco, was the nearby Camden-Amboy railway which made it easy access to NYC, Philadelphia, and Washingotn D.C. for any commuters looking to live away from the cities that they work in. In 1976 the passenger service was terminated on the Camden-Amboy rail line, but freight service remained. However, in March 2004 a new light rail named the Riverline was established connection the riverfront communities between Camden and Trenton. The railways may have changed over the years, but the accessability of the area has always been a major bonus for those looking for a home.
Delanco maintains its own school district and offers school to grades K-8, while high schoolers attend nearby Riverside High School. Also, Delanco is located in New Jersey's Third Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 7th Legislative District for state elections.
Despite the ease of access to the larger cities in the surrounding area, Delanco has managed to stay a tight-knit community over the years and maintains a very rural feel about it. That, coupled with the nearby waterways, make this a great place to look when thinking of buying a home.
