The New Jersey Pinelands Commission was awarded a $82,000 grant from the William Penn Foundation to implement the Natural Resource Protection Plan in Medford and Evesham. The funds will be used to implement a series of tasks within the Protection Plan encompassing a 22 square mile area within the southern portions of the two municipalities.
Almost 75% of the Natural Resource Protection Plan study area has been designated for residential development. However, recent studies have shown the area has significant natural resources, rare plants and animals, and includes undisturbed sub-watersheds. The Plan details strategies to protect the natural resources, plants and animals as well as recommendations to reduce the development area by 53%.
