A Bit About Haddonfield
Haddonfield is a relatively small borough that can be found in the Northern part of Camden County, New Jersey. Incorporated on April 6th 1875, Haddonfield had once been a part of Haddon Township. In 1894 Haddonfield actually became its own independent municipality in 1894. Haddonfield was the second such borough that sought independent municipality in New Jersey, the first being Cape May. Haddonfield is known by many as the borough that has not issued any liquor licenses since Prohibition!
Haddonfield was once occupied by Lenni Lanape Native Americans. The Lenni Lanape tribes appear to have left the area when other settlers arrived, though arrowheads as well as pottery have been and occasionally still can be found on the banks of the Copper River. For those that are interested in old Native American communities, Haddonfield, New Jersey can be a very interesting and educational place to be.
Though the area is known to have been occupied by the Lenni Lanape, Haddonfield was founded by Elizabeth Haddon who was from a Quaker family. Haddonfield has a lengthy and very interesting history, which includes the discovery of the first nearly full skeleton of a dinosaur that was found in North America. The area is worth visiting if you are interested in historic homes, lovely shops, and an enjoyable and charming downtown. The area is also known for the number of lawyers in town and people from all over the state often visit Haddonfield specifically for legal purposes.
