A Bit About Gloucester City

Gloucester City is situated along the banks of the Delaware River at the foot of the Walt Whitman Bridge. The neighborhoods in Gloucester City provide easy access to Route 130, I-295, and Route 42. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the population was estimated at 11,532 within 4,926 housing units. What is now known as Gloucester City was originally settled by the Dutch in the 17th century. The area was inhabited by native americans from Susquehannock and Lenape tribes. The first trading station was built in the 1620′s to trade primarily for beaver pelts with the indigenous populations residing along the Delaware River. Since first settlements, the area continued to grow and flourish due to it’s location on the water and easy access to travel and trade routes. Today you can find a quaint city filled with the historic charm, unique eateries, beautiful waterways, neighborhood parks, a marina, and fishing pier.
