A Bit About Cherry Hill
Orginally named Deleware Township, the area now known as Cherry Hill was renamed on November 7, 1961. Deleware Township had to be renamed because the town wanted their own post office and there were other areas in New Jersey that already had the name of Delaware. With other areas with the same name, mail would surely be lost or there would be a lot of confusion as to where to deliver certain mail. Cherry Hill was the name of a well known farm in the area, and was the located of the Cherry Hill Inn, which is currently the location of the Loews Movie Theatre. The land has a history, that´s for sure but it started with the Cherry Hill Farm which eventually led to the name of the town.
The largest and most well known developer in the area during this time as a man named Eugene Mori and he had named many of his properties after the Cherry Hill Farm. His properties included the Cherry Hill Inn, Cherry Hill Apartments, and Cherry Hill Estates. Even the mall in the then Deleware Township was the Cherry Hill mall, so when the town needed a new name it Cherry Hill seemed like the pefect fit. Town residents voted and Cherry Hill was chosen as the new name of the area. Many residents believe that the town was named after the mall, but this simply is not true. With so many well known structures in the area with the Cherry Hill name, it was an obvious choice for most residents.
