A Bit About Mount Holly
Mount Holly is a historic town located in New Jersey. This centrally located area is close to the Delaware River and just a short distance away from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This New Jersey town predates the American Revolution and is filled with a number of reminders from that period in time. Many structures from the 18th century are still standing in Mount Holly and are frequent tourist destinations for those who are looking to experience all of the historical hotspots which Mount Holly makes available to its visitors.
From log cabins to churches, past day structures abound throughout the town. For those individuals who may be interested in viewing an old prison of the early 19th century, taking a tour of Burlington County Historic Prison, designed by Robert Mills, who was the architect behind the Washington Monument, is highly recommended. Another interesting structure to visit in Mount Holly is the Old Courthouse Complex which was built in 1796 and designed by Samuel Lewis, the architect behind the famed Congress Hall in Philadelphia.
For those who are more interested in the famous individuals who called Mount Holly home, Justus C. Strawbridge of the popular Strawbridge & Clothier Department store used to work in Mount Holly before joining forces with Isaac H. Clothier. The man was an extremely well known individual in the area both in the past and present day.Â
