First Night 2008 Celebrations
First Night seeks to foster the public’s appreciation of visual and performing arts through an innovative, diverse and high quality New Year’s Eve program, which provides a shared cultural experience, accessible and affordable to all. The price of admission varies in each community, ranging from $5 to $15 per person. Many offer discounts for children and for those buying in advance.
This year’s celebrations will be hosted in Haddonfield, Camden County and Mt. Holly, Burlington County.

The Toilet House
The toilet house was built by Sim Jae-duck, chairman of the organizing committee of the Inaugural General Assembly of the World Toilet Association. To mark the launch of the association’s first general assembly in November, South Korean sanitation activists will be lifting the lid on a lavatory-shaped home south of Seoul. Sim, a member of parliament, hopes to attract 300 representatives from 70 countries to the inaugural meeting.

Jell-O Architecture
Liz Hickok is a San Francisco based artist working in photography, video, sculpture, installation, and currently, Jell-O. The following photographs are from her exhibits featuring various San Francisco landscapes and Scottsdale, AZ Center of the Arts. The Jell-O sculptures decay quickly leaving only the photographs and a few videos to display her works of art. The following descriptions and some of the photographs are from Liz Hickok’s website. The other photos are from photographers who attended her exhibitions between 2004 and 2007.
San Francisco In Jell-O
Similar to making a movie set, Liz Hickok added backdrops, which were often painted, along with elements such as mountains or trees. The exhibit was dramatically lighted from the back or underneath. As you can see, the landscapes which Hickok is able to create in this unique way are extremely diverse. Whereas a Jell-O reconstruction of the Las Vegas stip might catch the eye of sites such as www.pokerblog.com, we couldn’t help but be captivated by her models of various famous structures and properties from around San Francisco and Scottsdale..

Alcazar of Segovia
The Alcázar of Segovia (literally “Segovia Castle”) is a stone fortification, located in the old city of Segovia, Spain. It is one of the most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain by virtue of its shape – like the bow of a ship. The Alcázar was originally built as a fortress but has served as a royal palace, a state prison, a Royal Artillery College and a military academy since then.
